ANIMAL WELFARE BEST AND WORST OF TIMES

ANIMAL WELFARE BEST AND WORST OF TIMES.

“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way. Charles Dickens. 1859

THIS QUOTE ON THE TIMES THEN IN AMERICA WAS WRITTEN BY CHARLES DICKENS ALMOST 160 YEARS AGO. DOES IT SOUND EERILY LIKE TODAY?

What does this quote have to do with pets, pet food and animal welfare? Well to me it parallels what’s going on today in 2017 in animal welfare and animal care.

THE BEST OF TIMES:  We used to kill 8 million pets yearly, now less pets are being killed in shelters. Dog and cat ownership is up. People now care for pets like family members. Some pets even better than other family members:}

Healthier pet food is being rolled out. More human grade pet food is becoming available. People are bonding closer and closer with their pets. Animal rights laws are being passed globally.

THE WORST OF TIMES: In 2017 3.5 million dogs and cats are still killed in America yearly. People are becoming more and more selfish, taking their pet to a shelter or stopping their car and pushing their pet out and driving off. This happened this week in Woodstock. I was called to help. Pet food companies are putting poisoned downed animal meat into our pet’s food. Large pet food companies like are lying about the benefits of their products. And more families are struggling to feed themselves and feed their pets. And families are struggling to pay for medical care for themselves and their beloved family pet as well.

So what do we do in these parallel times of Light and darkness? At Green Pets we believe the answer is not turning against one another, but coming together as a local community to work on our challenges. To continue to care for one another. To embracing hope, looking forward together as compassionate, higher thinking human beings to a brighter future. And dare I say it: Loving ourselves, one another and our pets.

For while it is a global world the reality is that most everything that impacts us is locally. Please support your local nonprofits that are making a difference in local lives. Charities that are doing what needs to be done so we can get on with our lives.

Support local nonprofits that are caring for families, women, children and pets. Please support wonderful places and people like Papas Pantry, Ahimsa House, Must Ministries, and yes…Green pets America Charities.

“While others live in the winter of despair, let us bond together as a community in the coming spring of hope.

ANIMAL WELFARE BEST AND WORST OF TIMES

City Slickers Movie The Secret of Life

In the movie City Slickers Jack Palance taught Billy Crystal the secret of life. We couldn’t agree more with his sage advice.

The past few years after surviving a terminal illness I threw myself face first into one new thing after another. I was so happy to come back from the dead, I wasn’t going to miss a thing. I wanted to do all I could to enjoy each moment and each day. And by enjoying each day I would build a new life.

Well for the past 10 years I have been doing that. Enjoying each day and trying new things. What were those new things? In my previous life I was a structured, Type A, work obsessed corporate executive at a fortune 100 enterprise. This time I was bound to never work for anyone ever again. So, I became an entrepreneur.

I started an Executive Search firm, grew it and sold it. I then started a Business Brokerage firm. Decided it was too much like work so I started a non-profit. Love that, and kept leading it but needed more to occupy my life. So with all my past experience I became a Life and Business Coach. Teaching people how not to work themselves to death. And to that I became a writer and started a small publishing company.

I have done other things as well. But with all that busy-ness I started to become disillusioned. Somewhere along the way, it went from fun and exciting, to an obsession. So I decided I needed to get back to being happy full-time. I decided to narrow my focus and pick just one of all the businesses I had, and do just one. I knew by doing just one, I would have time to both plant and smell the flowers again. But, What would my one thing be?

I really believe, and have experienced it all throughout my life that when I have a burning desire, something shows up in my life to guide me towards it. And what showed up? The One Thing book by Gary Keller.

When I read the book I knew I was being guided towards my goal of happiness and doing just One Thing. The One Thing that made all other of the things I was doing unnecessary. I decided upon a criteria for my One Thing. It had to change the lives of others. It had to use my passion and it had to be the best thing I could do with my remaining years.

Well if you have read my One Thing 66 Day Workbook I wrote after finishing Keller’s book, you know I created a specific plan to not just pick my One Thing, but to really accomplish and live it. I wanted to change my life for now the third time.

So of all the business I have and all the various things I’ve been doing; what is my One Thing? Its devoting myself 100% to my nonprofit organization. The nonprofit I started after surviving my terminal illness over 10 years ago Green Pets America Charities. GPA is unique among animal welfare organizations. We are not your usual rescue the dogs organization. We are that of course… but we are so much more. Our whole reason for being is to make life better for families with companion animals. Particularly we help families in need care for and feed their pets. We keep the bond between people and their pets strong and together, even through difficult financial times.

When I peer into the eyes of a dog

When I peer into the eyes of a dog. Who Is The Teacher Dog Or Man?. There are two realities. Love and Hate. At Green Pets we live with both.

I AM LOVE

MAN CAN BREAK MY BODY

MAN CAN TORTURE ME

MAN CAN KILL ME

BUT MAN CANNOT KILL MY SOUL

MAN CANNOT KILL MY LOVE FOR MANKIND

FOR I AM DOG

I AM LOVE

LEARN FROM ME

When I peer into the eyes of a dog, I see love. Some look into the same eyes and see hate. The eyes of a dog are a mirror into the dogs soul. They are also a mirror into the Soul of the viewer. If a man is full of hate, he will see only hate in the dogs eyes. For that man cannot see anything but hate wherever he looks.

The person who looks into the eyes of a dog who has love in her or his heart cannot see hate. That person can only see Love reflected back. That person has love in their heart and the love in their heart and the Dogs heart for them is reflected back.

We in animal rescue can rescue dogs, but cannot rescue mankind. One either has a soul or does not. One sees love or cannot. One can only see hate or love. We cannot see both at the same moment. We who see love must care for the dogs that are on this earth.

Mankind and Dogs are caught up in the same mysterious invisible net we call life. Dogs are not owned by man. We are two equal species, two equal souls caught together.

When I peer into the eyes of a dog. Who is the teacher Dog or man?
