We still have a rational ethics choice in machine learning. There is a belief with the most ai technologists that I follow that ethics are non existent. They do not know what consciousness is so they do not need to factor the consciousness factor into making choices. Science cannot explain consciousness never the less produce it so they call it at best an old fairy tales. A very arrogant and ignorant mind set that propelled Hitler and other deranged minds. When machine learning runs amok humanity will have 70 % unemployment, humans with no purpose to go on, and an elite centered in America and China controlling the globe.
